A Wednesday offered you twist after twist, throwed down challenge after challenge in those 1.30 hours. No sub-plots, no songs, no unwanted masala, no unnecessary tracks, A Wednesday has a story to tell and it tells most effectively.

The editor (Shree Narayan Singh) deserves lavish praises for giving shape to this thriller. During the finale specifically Anupam is driving towards the location, while Naseer is packing his stuff the parallel scenes are juxtaposed brilliantly. The background score (Sanjay Chowdhury) is stirring.

Naseeruddin Shah has delivered several remarkable performances over the decades and the one in A Wednesday easily makes its way into his Top 5 works when you recall his body of work.

Anupam Kher is equally dynamic. If there's one actor who could stand up to a giant of an actor, it's Anupam Kher. An outstanding performance indeed!

Every performance in A Wednesday is charged. Jimmy Sheirgill is first-rate as a volatile cop. Aamir Bashir is superb. Again, this actor has never got his due in feature films. It's our loss, not his! Deepal Shaw plays her part confidently.

Chetan Pandit, as the Chief Minister, is effective. Ditto for the actor who plays the main terrorist Kali Prasad Mukherjee. On the whole, A Wednesday is cinema at its best.

It may not be a Kinng-sized entertainer to lure the audiences in hordes and set the box-office afire, but A Wednesday does pack in king-sized punch. Do yourself a favour Watch A Wednesday if you have missed it.

Bal Ganesh 2

Pankaj Sharma Bollywood's actor and director has appeared in some low profile movies like Mai that came in 1989, Tum: A Dangerous Obsession in 2004, Ek Hi Bhool and Sehar which got released in 2005.





Pankaj Sharma has also directed animated movies like Bal Ganesh (2007), which became popular with the kids. Pankaj Sharma made a sequel to this flick that titled Bal Ganesh 2.

Bal Ganesh 2 got released on October 23, 2009. Another directorial venture by Pankaj is Pangaa Gang that will be released in 2009 and this is also an animated movie based on a group of friends who fight the evil to keep their land safe.

These kind of mythological movies like Hanuman and Bal Ganesh encourages the film-makers to present stories from mythology in an animation format. Bal Ganesh 2, revolves around three different stories, all related to Lord Ganesha.

In terms of script and animation, Bal Ganesh 2 stands a step ahead inplace of Bal Ganesh. Bal Ganesh 2 comes up with the birth of Lord Ganesha and the confrontation with Lord Shiva, Lord Kubera's invitation to Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha and Lord Ganesha's voracious appetite; Lord Ganesha taking the round of His universe.

The first story in the film is related to a cat and how Lord Ganesha plays a prank on it. The second story is based on Sage Vyasa. Lord Ganesha not only writes the entire book, but also translates it while writing it. The third story showcases the fight between Lord Ganesh and a powerful demon Gajmukhasur.

On the whole, we just hope that Bal Ganesh 2 appeals to all age groups. Give it a try!!!!!

Do Knot Disturb

Produced by Vashu Bhagnani, directed by David Dhawan Do Knot Disturb was released on October 2, 2009. The film features Govinda, Sushmita Sen, Ritesh Deshmukh, Lara Dutta, Sohail Khan, Ranvir Shorey, Rituparna Sengupta, Rajpal Yadav and Manoj Pahwa.





Govinda plays a rich husband who is married to Sushmita Sen. At the same time Govinda also has been having an affair with Lara Dutta who plays Dolly's character who is an item queen who has dumped her ex (Sohail Khan) for greener pastures. Govinda’s kicked out butler Nandu (Rajpal Yadav) in an attempt to get back at him clicks a photo of him with Dolly and sends it to his wife.

When you enter a film like Do Knot Disturb, logic should be the last thing on your mind. In the movie you will see a two timing husband who is no more a novelty on screen and Govinda and David Dhawan have churned out many films revolving around this theme earlier. But this time they have failed together.

Nadeem Shravan’s music is dated like the film’s jokes barring the Bebo number. Sets are gaudy and camerawork functional. Govinda can create a laugh riot amongst the audiences if he decides to do so but in this flick in some comic sequences the actor has lost his humor.

Ritesh Deshmukh on the other side is much subdued and likeable as the greedy waiter. Lara Dutta looks great and with her acting she has displayed good flair for comedy. Sushmita Sen is hardly there in the first half and is not seen in the second right till the climax.

Ranvir Shorey is funny but skips to tickle your laughter bone. Sohail Khan’s character could have been developed more as he is genuinely funny in his angry moments. Rajpal Yadav and Manoj Pahwa manage a few laughs. Rituparna Sengupta hardly gets any scope.

Do Knot Disturb is a comeback of the No.1 series trio of producer Vashu Bhagnani, director David Dhawan and Govinda but alas they need to work more this time !!

Mohandas

After showing his creative work in superhit films like Satya, Jhankar Beats and Masti, cinematographer Mazhar Kamran has now came up with his directorial debut titled Mohan Das which got released on September 4. With the film Mazhar Kamran makes a sincere attempt to narrate this unconventional story well.




The film is made on a small scale with talented actors like Sonali Kulkarni, Nakul Vaid, Sushant Singh, Sharbani Mukherjee, Sameer Dharmadhikari, Uttam Haldar, Aditya Shrivastav, Akhilendra Mishra and Govind Namdeo. The film is produced by Abha Sonakia.

The plot of the flick revolves around a man who is lost in his own country. The problems faced by a common man are dealt with open satire in the film. The
muisc of the movie is given by Vivek Priyadarshan.

Nakul Vaid plays his part very well and has proved his worth. Sushant Singh doesn't get scope, but nonetheless leaves an impact. Sharbani Mukerjee has transformed herself well for this part. Sonali Kulkarni gets a right role. Aditya Srivastava is competent. Govind Namdeo is first-rate. Sameer Dharmadhikari just okay. Uttam Haldar is proficient.

On the whole, Mohandas is a well-intentioned, well-made film, but it will have a tough time standing on its feet due to lack of face-value and also multiple releases. Still, you must see the film....

Kaminey-A Pure Entertainer

Vishal Bhardwaj has successfully executed the story line of ‘Kaminey’ which makes it different from other films. The film stars Shahid Kapur and Priyanka Chopra. Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey is bold, funny and unpredictable, which is the success mantra of the flick.




Shahid Kapoor has played double role in Kaminey and he looks awesome in the film. Kaminey is not about masala film. Actually it is a well planned movie.

The story revolves around a pair of twin brothers– Charlie and Guddu. Charlie lisps, while Guddu stammers. The title Kaminey takes time to justify itself. The best part of the movie begins after the interval to the climax.

The director has placed all themes so perfectly, that his direction proves that Vishal is a master storyteller. With the film Shahid Kapur has already taken a big step towards stardom. Priyanka Chopra is now the top-most listed actress. Amole Gupte is outstanding. Tenzing Nima and Chandan Roy Sanyal leave a solid impression.

Guide-1965 Film

The musical, full of drama and romance filled 1965 released movie Guide is considered as one of the masterpieces of the Indian film industry and the film was made by the famous bollywood director Vijay Anand, younger brother of epitome of the suave, urban gentleman Dev Anand.

The film is based on the critically acclaimed novel, The Guide, by R. K. Narayan. The film proved to be a box office hit upon release. This movie proved memorable for its award-winning performances by the lead actors and memorable music by S. D. Burman.




The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007, 42 years after its release. Guide is remarkable for the manner in which it depicts the relationship between Raju and Rosie, a relationship which has no place in respectable society of that time.

A live-in relationship is not something that filmmakers want to touch even today. The film also showcases the throbbing chemistry between Rosie and the Guide.





Their growing proximity and intimacy is brought out beautifully by the director. This is probably the first film where Dev Anand has shrugged off his nonchalant air and acted like a man driven by passion and compassion.

Dev Anand's Raju is a very real character, very human. Waheeda Rehman is equally bewitching in her portrayal of Rosie, a woman who breaks away from the stifling prison of her marriage with the help of her lover and carves a career out for herself. It was a daring role but also one which had tremendous scope for performance and Waheeda made the best use of it.

Waheeda's dance to Lata Mangeshkar's 'Aaj phir jeene ki tamanna hai,' is memorable even today because of her presence, Lata's voice, SD Burman's music and the superb way in which the song is conceived and shot. Waheeda's performance too won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for Guide.

The music for this film was composed by Sachin Dev Burman and the songs were sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Sachin Dev Burman. The film is remarkable and memorable even today for so many reasons, beginning with its unconventional theme, its music and its actors.

Aitraaz

The Indian moviegoer has often witnessed man-sexually-molesting-woman situations on the big screen. In this particular movie a woman is accusing man of molesting her.

The movie Aitraaz tackles the issue of sexual harassment, with the unique spin of placing the man in the position of victim and the woman as aggressor. The film casts Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles.

In the accused box of the courtroom, stands a man, startled and shocked that destiny could lead him there. He is accused of the most heinous crime - molesting his lady-boss. Raj Malhotra (played by Akshay Kumar), who works for a cell phone company, is popular amongst his circle of friends and work colleagues. But his world comes crashing down when he meets Sonia (Priyanka Chopra) again.

Sonia is an ambitious model with great aspirations. She knows what she wants in life. She is prepared to achieve her goals, whatever the price. Her fundas in life are crystal clear: Nothing shall come in between her wants and desires. Raj is well aware that Sonia knew only one way to live and that was her way. And one fateful evening, things did not go her way. Sonia brings Raj's world to a screeching halt. The court is far from adjourned… Inspired by Barry Levinson's Hollywood flick Disclosure, Aitraaz has a plot that Indian cinegoers haven't witnessed on the screen yet.

Aitraaz belongs to Priyanka Chopra completely. No two opinions on that! Be it her first appearance or the sequence, Priyanka did full justice to her character in the film.

Kareena has a sugar-and-sweet character till the pre-climax and she does it well. Akshay Kumar underplays his character ably. Amrish Puri is alright. The theme of the movie is extremely provocative. Himesh Reshammiya's music sounds pleasant to the ears. Cinematography is first-rate. On the whole, Aitraaz is a well-crafted thriller.....

Rafoo Chakkar-Pathetic Comedy

Rafoo Chakkar is a painful, boring, crude, trashy, brainless comedy. And it’s not funny; it makes you yawn all the time. It only shows a typical low class comedy.

This pathetic chakkar starts with Millie and Julie (Nisha and Nauheed) who run away from home because they do not want to get married. Similarly, Pappu and Munnu( Yudi and Aslam) escape for the same reason. These four meet in Mumbai and fall in love, when they were supposed to get married to each other in the first place.

Besides making a mockery of funny films, it also mocks marriage and death. The scenes involving death are handled insensitively. The performances are terrible, more so because the characters are silly. Archana Puran Singh and Mita Vashisht have made utter fools of themselves and their action sequences are hard to believe. Nisha Rawal, last seen in Serendipity’s awful rip-off Hastey Hastey, has no screen presence whatsoever and cannot act. Nauheed Cyrusi is strictly ok.

Yudi was a popular VJ on Channel V and his TV shows had better scripts than Rafoo Chakkar. He does not look awkward in front of the camera. Aslam Khan has an annoying and stupid character and his expressions are totally blank.

Shakti Kapoor and Sadashiv Amrapurkar haven’t been seen in a long time. The performances of the characters looks outdated. The pre-climax scene has been ripped off cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna, which ironically starred Shakti Kapoor as the memorable Crime Master Gogo. The music by Lalit Pandit (of Jatin-Lalit) is bad, the camerawork is messy.

Rafoo Chakkar is a 2 hour long drag. If people are still willing to see the movie I suggest them to stay awake!!!

Dev D

Dev D is one such flight of fancy from the filmmaker that definitely defies all conventions and demolishes all moulds. The director of the film Anurag Kashyap has always been a contrarian filmmaker, consciously steering away from traditional Bollywood with films like Black Friday, Paanch, No Smoking.

Dev D is like that heady cocktail which has the vodka pitched perfectly with the tang. Set against the rich rural backdrop of Punjab and Paharganj (Delhi), the film traces the self-destructive sojourn of a young, contemporary hero who mirrors the existential angst of the proverbial outsider, made legendary in the writings of Satre, Camus, Kafka, Kerouac and the ballads of Kurt Cobain.

But Dev D (Abhay Deol), unlike Devdas, isn't a blast from the past. Dev D is indeed a coming-of-age film, not merely for the protagonist, Devender Singh Dhillon, but it is a brilliant breakthrough for Bollywood too.

It really doesn't matter whether the film ends up as a box office scorcher. What matters is the fact that for the discerning viewer. Anurag Kashyap, however, gets even more adventurous and adds a progressive flourish to both the plot and the characters which are played to perfection by the three lead players.

If Mahi and Kalki are riveting new finds, assured of a long innings in cinema, then Abhay Deol adds a whole new meaning to the term `Unconventional Hero'. Dev D is the class act from the Deol who cleverly flew over the cuckoo's nest.

Dev D is purely a musical love story, with zany numbers like ‘emosanal atyachar', ‘saali khushi', ‘nayan tarse' and many more.

Zor Lagaa Ke Haiyaa-Pure Entertainer

Zor Lagaa Ke Haiyaa is about how a group of children, with the help of a homeless man, overcome all the obstacles to save a tree from being razed by a money-minded construction giant and his contractor. Their quest mirrors the apathy of contemporary society to such types of environmental issues. Through nonstop action, comedy and adventure, the children finally realize what it takes to stand their ground in the battle against concrete. '

The movie is directed by Girish Girija Joshi and produced by Basant Talreja and Kartikeya Talreja. The film casts Mithun Chakraborty, Riya Sen, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Raj Zutshi, Seema Biswas and Gulshan Grover and child artistes Megan, Ayesha Kaduskar, Hardik Thakkar, Ritvik Tyagi and Ashwin Chitale.

Sorry Bhai

Sorry Bhai is about the complexities of relationships seen and felt in real life. That subtle tug or snap in relationships when people are drawn towards or pulled away from each other. These very moments captured with a telling effect provide the soul to ‘Sorry Bhai’ even though the film gets a little too tangled in the second half.

At the centre of the movie is a slowly developing love story between a woman and the younger brother of the man she is about to marry. Sanjay Suri as Harsh is set to marry Aaliya (Chitrangada Singh). His family comprising of a young, shy scientist brother Siddharth ( Sharman Joshi ), a disapproving mom ( Shabana Azmi ) and a chilled-out dad ( Boman Irani ) come to Mauritius to attend the wedding. While Harsh doesn’t seem to have much time for his family, Siddharth and Aaliya develop a bond that turns into mutual attraction. The duo fights this attraction.

More than just a romantic story, ‘Sorry Bhai’ taps on the bonding between two brothers, and between the two women in the story. Shabana Azmi and Boman Irani who charm you completely with their crackling chemistry and their natural act as urbane parents.

In a movie like ‘Sorry Bhai’, it’s more appropriate to judge the actors’ job from viewpoint of the chemistry between them rather than individual performances. Sanjay Suri is relegated to the background for a substantial part, but he too gets his moments. Boman Irani is superb in a relatively smaller but homour-filled role.

The film, with its above average music and eye-pleasing cinematography, has a somewhat boring ending preceded by a couple of sequences where you feel the director either lost his grip over the plot or became too self-indulgent.

But at the end of the day, ‘Sorry Bhai’ gives you a faint smile and doesn’t make you feel sorry for the money and time spent on the flick.

Dil Kabaddi

Dil Kabaddi is a new comedy film directed by debutante Anil Sharma (Senior). The film tracks the lives of two modern day married couples Irrfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan; Rahul Bose and Konkona Sen Sharma caught in web of boredom, loss of love and temptation. The film starts with an announcement by Samit and Mita Of their separation, and follows the moral muddles and emotional crises of the couples over the next year and a half - as friends fight, separate, take lovers and, in a way, reconcile.

Star cast of Dil kabaddi :

Irfan Khan as Samit - a bored banker and married to Mita. Samit is suffering from a seven years itch. he prefers getting this itch scratched by lovely girl Kaya. He loves Kaya with a passion without pretending intellectual capability. samit wants to live life king size and unconventional.

Soha Ali Khan as Mita - a cosmetic surgeon and married to samit. Armed with a compulsive cleanliness, she hates and loves her husband Samit. She is sexy, honest and forthright to a fault. she is intellectual who gets creativity passionate about theatre, architecture and other arts. she hates messages as she finds them messy and hygienic but she stirs up a hot passion in Veer who unwillingly falls for her.

Rahul Bose as Rishi - a professor and married to Simi. He always feel for the wrong kind of women except Simi. He has a weakness for bad women who he himself has labeled as "SUICIDE BOMBERS". He verbally proclaims not be a womanizer, unlike many of his colleagues. but being a writer, His imagination was always in an overdrive.

Konkona Sen Sharma as Simi - an assistant editor by profession and married to Rishi. She can drive anybody nuts without a single argument. she has this air of " Poor me " and "Please help me" But has a will of iron and does exactly as she pleases. Simi finds veer very tempting but after she has set him up with Mita.

Rahul Khanna as veer - an art director and single guy. He is Simi's colleague with great sense of humour. He was attracted at first sight to Mita. Never thought he want another relationship so soon but suddenly founds himself loving everything about Mita. He thinks of himself as a one woman man but one woman at a time...

Payal Rohatgi as Kaya - ab aerobic instructor and samit's hottest fantasy. She is a beautiful woman who tries hard. She stirs up attention where ever she goes. being dumb enough not to realize that sensex has nothing to do with sex.

Story :

Dil Kabaddi tackles the journey of two modern day couples in urban India, Samit and Mita & Rishi and Simi. While Samit is indeed proud of his philandering and thoroughly enjoys the adventure and experimentation, Mita is at receiving end of his adulterous ways. His pride along with her suffering defines their relationship. On the other hand, as Rishi tries really hard to walk that extra mile and get rid of his monogamy, Simi struggles to decide whether she is really cut out for something outside of marriage or not. His desperation coupled with her confusion, decide the dynamics of this relationship.

As the four saddle their Way on the marital marathon, they come across Kaya, who spices up the goings-on between Samit and Mita; Raga, who gives Rishi the motivation to take the next step; and Veer who ends up for a short stint with Mita, and becomes the sole reason for Simi’s confusion.

How the quartet handles these complex, sensitive matters of the heart, and how they solve the never ending quests which their hearts put them through, with some ending up with a broken heart, is essentially the crux of the plot of Dil Kabbadi.
